Understanding Apple Watch Strap Sizes and Compatibility

• 38mm, 40mm, 41mm Apple Watch models – These are the smaller case sizes (found in Series 1–3 at 38mm, Series 4–6 and SE at 40mm, and Series 7–9 at 41mm). Bands designed for any of these small Apple Watch cases are interchangeable with each other. In other words, a band that fits a 38mm case will also fit 40mm and 41mm cases, and vice versa.
• 42mm, 44mm, 45mm Apple Watch models – These are the larger case sizes (42mm in Series 1–3, 44mm in Series 4–6 and SE, and 45mm in Series 7–9). Bands for any of these large Apple Watch cases are compatible across 42mm, 44mm, and 45mm watches. If your watch falls in this range, choose bands labeled for 42/44/45mm.
• Apple Watch Ultra (49mm) – The Apple Watch Ultra features a 49mm case, which uses the larger band connector as well. This means Apple Watch Ultra bands are compatible with 44mm/45mm models, and conversely, bands made for 42/44/45mm will fit the Ultra. (For the Ultra, some specialty bands like the Alpine Loop, Ocean Band, etc., are tailored to its rugged design, but standard large-size bands will work seamlessly too.)
